Yoga Classes with Jaime & Jennifer

yoga on the beach - wild thing

Why learn Yoga?

Most people today suffer from high levels of stress. Money worries, health worries and relationship problems are at the top of nearly everyone’s list today. Fatigue, agitation, and illness often appear alongside high levels of stress. Yoga can help!

At its simplest level, yoga improves oxygenation of your cells by helping you to breathe more fully, and with more awareness. Have you ever noticed that common stresses and tensions cause you to hold your breath? A big sigh is often your way of letting go of that tension. Yoga asanas help you create more space in your body by using your breath, increase blood circulation and help drain toxins out through the lymph. Various postures also help expel stagnant waste sitting in the colon, which is a leading cause of impaired vitality, ill health and disease.

The body is a dynamic, self-repairing organism. It is not as subject to decay and degeneration as most people believe. Many of us start losing mobility in our twenties, especially with today’s sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, but regular yoga practise increases mobility and flexibility over time, counteracting the adverse effects of aging. Each posture/asana is specifically designed to stretch, strengthen and tone every single nerve, muscle and tissue of the entire body and, more critically, massage and nourish the internal organs of the body with fresh, oxygenated blood. This can help prevent routine aches and pains that Western society has attributed to getting older!

Your body wants to move and stretch! It wants to find its natural rhythm again, but years of negative habits often mean the body is achy and stiff, and out of balance – far more than it needs to be.

Our goal is to help you restore vitality and well being, whilst instilling a sense of calm, focus and equilibrium. As dedicated Yogis who live and breathe yoga, we teach a mixture of Vinyasa flow, Hatha and Yin. We are passionate about sharing our deeper understanding of “why yoga works” to improve both mind and body to all those who are interested in learning more.

Tips for class!

The importance of staying hydrated
You should drink plenty of water throughout the day before class, and continue to hydrate after class; during the yoga class, take small sips of water to stay hydrated. You should avoid eating directly beforehand, as this may cause you to feel nauseous, and it is recommended that you only eat light foods about 3 hours before class.

What you need for class
Bring a LARGE bottle of water to each and every class.

For hygienic reasons, ALL students will need to bring their own yoga mat with optional non-slip towel for yoga class, and a normal towel for showering after class.

There are a few showers available at Suite48 in the women’s and men’s changing rooms.

What to wear
This will very much depend on the weather. In the spring, summer and autumn, women usually wear sports top and bottoms, and men can wear just shorts with a t-shirts or vest top, you may wish to bring a hand towel to wipe away sweat or cover the face in savasana (final relaxation). In the winter you will need to wear layers, and may also wish to bring a shawl or small blanket for final savasana.

Some additional thoughts

Whatever your fitness level, you will most likely find yoga both challenging and rewarding, which explains why so many people come back time and again. The postures (called “asanas”) combine strength, flexibility and balance to give you a total body workout and, as with other forms of cardiovascular exercise, regular practice will also aid weight loss and regulate your metabolism. Look forward to gaining more energy and vitality in your day!

Finally, we want to remind you that a body which is leaning more towards flexibility than stiffness, and which is able to stay properly aligned, will be a lot less prone to injuries and will put you in far greater stead to give you the freedom and vitality you need for a healthy, happier life – something which we all want and deserve.
