A Note On Being Fully Present In Each Moment
It’s very easy to let the mind dwell on the past or race ahead of itself. In fact, the mind — your mind — is very comfortable being in either ‘past’ or ‘future’. It is not comfortable being rooted in the here and now – because that is the death of it.
We are so used to being in the past or future that it seems impossible to tell the difference – in fact, you may even reject the idea that you’re not living in the Now. That’s your ego duping you… ego and mind are synonymous.
You can tell if you are not fully present, awake and conscious in this moment by training your awareness to notice how much Peace you have in any moment… sometimes frustrations arise but it’s how we deal with our challenges that matters most – your Soul is observing you (without judgment) to see your responses.
You can be sure that if you don’t feel peace in this moment, for this moment, you are not in it.
As teacher Eckhart Tolle says, most people reduce the NOW to a means to an end.
The employee who rushes to and from work… the music student who rushes through his ‘scales practice’ to get to the fun part… the person who dwells on his/her ex, and how ‘good it was’.. the retiree who constantly reminisces about the ‘good old days’… all these scenarios show someone who is not in the moment of life.
The ancient method of ‘witnessing’ or ‘watching’ yourself is key to breaking the hypnosis. You, as pure consciousness, simply notice what is going on with the ‘personality’ self in any given moment.
Yet, the most important thing you can ask yourself right now is, “am I feeling peace about THIS moment, the here and now?”
If you can keep asking yourself that question, you will begin to notice more ways the mind tricks you, and thus robs you of the fullness and richness of living in the Eternal Now, the only moment there really is.
Yesterday and tomorrow are both illusions – they exist only in your mind and nowhere else.
Most sleepwalk through life, not understanding this basic premise.
You can begin to change it – right here, right now.
